PICA's historical Profile: The origins of Pica
Trade Co., Inc. from its present location in
San Francisco
are to be found in
Persia
, where "Grandpa Tabrizi" in 1920s was successfully
continuing his family heritage: International Trading. In those
years, in which the connections to and from foreign countries were
not so close nor convenient as nowadays, Grandpa Tabrizi was
traveling frequently to India, the Far East and Europe in order to
export and import food and food related raw materials from and to
his native Mashad; capital of Khorasan, the largest province of
Persia and worldly renowned as main center for the trade of
Saffron, besides other products. The entrepreneurial spirit of
Grandpa Tabrizi led him to transfer his activities to the capital
of
Persia
:
Tehran
, where he expanded his business incorporating two factories for
processing and exporting sheep casings and hides. The sheep casing
in particular grew into a conspicuous business, as this natural
raw material was sent to
Germany
in bulk quantities to leading factories in production of canned
sausages and sausages in jar. Hides were driven from sheepskin
were being exported mainly to
Italy
to the leather manufacturing factories (tanneries).

business, by expanding their export quantities for casing and
hides to more European countries, USA and Japan. They also continued
